Prof. Maria G. Burns is a maritime professional serving as the Director for the Logistics & Transportation Policy Program, University of Houston. In her dual security role, she serves as a Lead Homeland Security researcher and Lead of Education and Workforce in the DHS Center of Excellence for Borders, Trade and Immigration Research, led by the University of Houston. She is an acclaimed maritime and energy author of the books 1) "Port Management & Operations" (2014); 2) "Logistics & Transportation Security" (2015) 3) "Energy Security & Critical Infrastructure" (2017) 4) "Maritime Operations & Security" (2018) She has also developed a series of Maritime Training Manuals approved by the US Coast Guard/NMC. She was conferred an Honorary Membership in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, and is a Member of the Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC) specialized in supply chain security. A Certified Auditor for Security (ISPS), Safety (ISM), Quality (ISO9001) and the Environment (ISO14001), and Chair in the Supply Chain Security Subcommittee of the National Academies, (Washington DC), Member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME), and the International Association of Maritime Economists (IAME).
